Volunteer Spotlight – Jarrett Engel

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” ~Muhammad Ali

April is National Volunteer Month and a time to shine a spotlight on those who give back to make a difference in the lives of others. Our Hands & Feet Organization embodies the stewardship core value of The Pelora Group by focusing on giving our time, talent, and treasure for the greater good.

We are proud to highlight Jarrett Engel, our director of advisor development, who is deeply committed to giving back where he lives and works. Thank you, Jarrett, for your unwavering commitment to serving others. Jarrett shares his background and insights about volunteering.

What are some causes/ organizations you are most passionate about? Anything to do with helping others; specifically children. Someone once said that “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove… but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.” As an EMT in New Jersey for over 25 years, I found a great deal of joy when helping children during tough crisis situations. Moving to Charlotte, one of my first charities was working with Classroom Central that provides school supplies for children in need. This led me to my current role as Chairperson of the Union County Boys and Girls Clubs with the Salvation Army.

How long have you been volunteering with/supporting these organizations? As an EMT with the Colts Neck First Aid Squad, I volunteered for just over 25 years and is a current Life Member. Have been serving the Boys and Girls Clubs of Union County for almost three years.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering? Brings me closer to the community. Secondarily, I have found that it has a positive impact on me personally and professionally, making me a better friend, spouse, brother, father, and servant leader.

How has The Pelora Group/Hands & Feet empowered you in supporting the causes you care about? Stewardship, being one of our five core values has helped to keep me motivated and excited about the benefits of volunteering. Volunteering can be hard to keep out in front when work and life get difficult and having a partnership with the firm has helped me stay motivated and focused; especially with the Great Futures Golf Tournament.

How has volunteering impacted you? Creating a balanced life with work, family, friendships, faith and volunteering is so important to my own personal health. I seem to much more focused, motivated and inspired when volunteering and helping others is part of my daily life.

What is one of your favorite memories from volunteering? That’s easy because there are so many but two that come to mind are delivering a child and being thanked for inspiring a friend to become a fellow volunteer.
